It has everything. The greenery is beautiful―it really is world-class.❶❷❼❾❻R, Cycling Journalist & EditorThe appeal of this route lies in the contrast between two peninsula roads marked by continuous small ups and downs between the sea and mandarin orange groves, and a gently curving forest road through the mountains with an elevation gain of approximately 600 meters. Cafés and roadside stations are scattered along the way, making it a comfortable and enjoyable ride.❸❺❽❹ There are two routes leading to Cape Sadamisaki: the Blue Line along National Route 197, and an old national road with many curves that follows the coastline. The latter is introduced here. Komo Cape / Dramatic cliffs rising over 100 meters above the sea, marking the southernmost point of Ehime Prefecture.2 From the coastal road that undulates with a series of small rises and dips, you can look out over the Uwa Sea, dotted with islands and rows of seaweed and pearl aquaculture rafts. Take time to savor this scenery found nowhere else. Uwa Sea / A sea where aquaculture—especially pearls and sea bream—thrives. Its waters are warm and highly transparent. It is also a local road used by residents, but with little traffic, making it comfortable to ride. The Blue Line continues along the coastline. The sharp hairpin turns may seem understated, but they are a coveted highlight for riders.1IEDAB Sotodomari / A stone-walled fishing village that has existed since the Edo period and is designated a nationally recognized historic settlement.3Route5 Cape Sadamisaki–Yawatahama City–Uwa SeaRoute4 Uwajima City–Ainan Town16Uwa SeaBungo Channel
