EVENT - JAPAN - AZUMINO

Azumino Century Ride is a long-distance cycling event that began in 2009, taking riders north from Matsumoto through Azumino and Omachi to Hakuba in Nagano Prefecture. Set against the spectacular backdrop of the Northern Japan Alps in spring, the event offers two editions during the cherry blossom and fresh green seasons. Riders can choose from 160 km and 120 km courses, as well as a unique option that includes a return journey by cycle train from the turnaround point. One of the event’s greatest attractions is the ever-changing scenery: peaceful rice fields and crystal-clear streams in Azumino, the tranquil Nishina Three Lakes, and the snow-capped peaks of the Hakuba mountain range. Each kilometer reveals a new perspective on the satoyama countryside and alpine landscape. The event is led by Raita Suzuki, a former Japanese Olympic mountain biker who represented Japan at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. As Executive Committee Chair and Producer, he has also played a key role in promoting cycling culture throughout the region. Aid stations showcase local specialties such as oyaki dumplings and sekihan manju, allowing participants to experience the flavors of Nagano alongside its magnificent scenery. Combining breathtaking mountain views with warm local hospitality, the Azumino Century Ride has earned a reputation as one of Japan’s premier fun ride events.
