The Sparkle Oita Racing Team, a professional cycling team based in Oita Prefecture, is proud to announce the third Bungo Ono Sauna & Run/Cycling. Designed to promote wellness, community, and the charm of rural Japan, this event offers a unique opportunity for a deeply enriching experience.

Bungo Ono — A Sauna Town

While Oita is known for its hot springs, Bungo Ono stands out as the only municipality in the prefecture without a hot spring. Instead, it has gained attention as a “Town of Saunas,” offering a distinct approach to relaxation. The city also holds historical significance in Japan’s cycling scene, having hosted the All-Japan Road Race Championships in 2013.

This Year’s Course

The course has been designed to be gentle and beginner-friendly, making it accessible to participants of all fitness levels. While seasoned cyclists may find it less challenging, the focus remains on connecting with nature, local people, and personal rejuvenation.

The event will take place at Lodge Kiyokawa in Bungo Ono, a scenic retreat surrounded by natural beauty. The lodge offers accommodation and bicycle rentals for those traveling from afar.

Breezing Through Setouchi in Ehime ＃04

A straight coastal and fish ride along the Setokaze Kaido

This route, the Iyonada-Sadamisaki Seto Seaside Cycling Course, traverses a mountainous peninsula heading towards the most western point of Ehime and may be a bit of a challenge for some, but if you are a true masochist like me, why not try it during the summertime! Now, I’m of course not trying to discourage anyone from experiencing the excursion (it was a fun ride) but I must say that the time around July and August should probably be reserved for diehard cyclists of which I am no longer sure I’m a part of. This is Daisaku Kawase, Global Ride’s Communication Director, currently staying on Oahu as the Honolulu Century Ride (HCR) approaches once again this year. Oahu, the host island of the event, offers so much more than just Waikiki — it’s home to many charming and vibrant neighborhoods.
