“Making Hawaii a Place Where Everyone Can Enjoy a Cycling Life”
As early summer vibes start to make their way across Japan, I can’t help but think of Hawaii—especially after covering the Honolulu Century Ride.
There’s just something about that place… Don’t you think Hawaii has a way of resetting you, just by being there? Sure, fancy restaurants and lively shopping can be fun, but one of Hawaii’s greatest charms is how simply spending a day there can lift your spirits and make you feel light and free.
That said, I want to hike up mountains, swim in the ocean, go on a fun ride, and eat at delicious restaurants too.
I mean, it is Hawaii, after all! (Can’t have it both ways, huh?)
Registration is now open for the Honolulu Century Ride, which takes you through the city and out into the suburbs of Honolulu.
But maybe you’re thinking…
“Not sure about going alone…”
“Is there really anything in Honolulu besides beaches and shopping?”
“I love Hawaii, but none of my friends are into cycling…”
If that sounds like you, don’t worry!
This time, we’re sharing tips and info on how to enjoy Honolulu and Hawaii beyond just the ride.
Why not invite that person you’ve been meaning to ask, or someone you’ve always wanted to travel with, and discover your own version of Hawaii this year?
Kicking things off with a quote from another site might be a bit sudden, but this one really covers all the best ways to enjoy Hawaii.
Let me know if you want it more formal, humorous, or localized!
🌺Aloha Smile *Japanese only.

The site is supervised by locals living in Hawaii and covers everything—from classic restaurants and popular souvenirs to insider shopping tips and cultural columns on things like hula dancing. It’s a must-read for anyone new to Hawaii who wants to make the most of their trip. With frequent updates, even seasoned Hawaii visitors are likely to discover something new.
A tour around Oʻahu—mainly focused on downtown Honolulu—by TV producer Daisaku Kawase, a familiar name from his ride reports for Global Ride.

🌺For Those Who Want to Enjoy Honolulu Even More.

This guide features cafes, lifestyle shops, and other spots in the downtown area that aren’t typically found in your standard tourist guidebooks. Daisaku Kawase, who majored in German literature during his student days and had absolutely no interest in Hawaii, became captivated by the islands after participating in the Honolulu Century Ride. This short trip takes him through the places he’s come to love in Hawaii, all while riding his cherished Brompton.

🌺Foster Botanical Gardens

A botanical garden near Hawaii’s Izumo Taisha in the downtown area. I wouldn’t recommend it for those who have experience hiking in Hawaii’s mountains (as it can’t compare to the natural environment), but for those who don’t have the time to go that far but still want to experience Hawaii’s unique vegetation, this is a great option. As a first-timer in Hawaii, I was honestly very satisfied with the scale of it. You’ll be amazed by the size of the leaves and trees, and the abundance of flowers in bloom—things you don’t usually see in the city. The entrance fee is also very affordable at just $5 for adults.
🌺Ali’I Coffee Co.

Also located not far from downtown, near Foster Botanical Gardens, is this coffee shop. It started in a garage in 2014 and gradually grew in size, even making appearances at local farmers’ markets. The entrance to the shop is quite dim (in the shade), making it a bit difficult to spot, but the staff is extremely friendly. In addition to coffee, their taro latte seems to be a popular choice. The cinnamon toast topped with plenty of fresh fruit is also delicious.
🌺Honolulu Museum of Art
https://honolulumuseum.org/
A representative art museum of Hawaii. The atmosphere of the courtyard, with its landscaping that takes full advantage of the architecture and climate, is simply wonderful. Just entering the museum will leave you satisfied. The cafe facing the garden is spacious and comfortable. In addition to Hawaiian and Oceanic art, there is also a significant collection of works by American artists. Among them, one of the highlights is Georgia O’Keeffe (1887–1986), a renowned American female painter, and her piece III-lao Valley (Iao Valley), which was created during her time in Hawaii. It’s truly moving to see works painted during her stay in Hawaii displayed here.
Hawaii is a place you can enjoy whether you’re alone or with friends.
You can have a great time in Hawaii, whether you’re on a bike or not.
But if you do take part in sports, Hawaii will undoubtedly give you an unforgettable experience.
So, how will you spend your time this year?
